Perhaps your child is anxious. Mornings have become a battle. Home feels tense. You're walking on eggshells, trying to say the right thing, do the right thing, and keep everyone afloat.
Over time, families naturally adapt to difficult situations. Sometimes those adaptations help. Sometimes they unintentionally leave everyone feeling stuck.
Family Therapy at The Healing Space offers a space to slow things down, understand what's happening beneath the surface, and explore ways to improve communication, strengthen relationships and create lasting change.
Support is tailored to your family's needs and may involve family therapy, parent support, individual sessions or a combination of approaches.
Their emotions, behaviour and wellbeing are shaped by relationships, experiences and the world around them.
Sometimes, the most effective way to support a child isn't by asking them to carry the responsibility for change on their own.
By working with parents, children and other family members where appropriate, we can begin to understand the patterns that have developed, recognise everyone's needs and strengths, and work towards meaningful change together.
You don't have to wait until things reach crisis point before asking for support.
Every family is different, and there isn't one approach that works for everyone.
At The Healing Space, family therapy is informed by attachment theory, systemic thinking and an understanding of how relationships, experiences and emotional responses shape family life.
Rather than focusing solely on one person's behaviour, we look at the patterns that develop between family members, how these patterns affect everyone, and what might help relationships feel safer, more connected and more manageable.
My approach focuses on understanding attachment needs, family relationships and the patterns that shape how family members respond to one another.
Sessions provide space for family members to express their thoughts, feelings and experiences, hear one another's perspectives and explore what happens within their relationships. Through guided conversation, we work towards a deeper understanding of each person's experience, how familiar patterns develop and what might help things change.
The aim is to strengthen communication, reduce misunderstanding and support family members to develop more helpful ways of relating to one another. Creative activities may also be incorporated where appropriate to the ages and needs of the family.
Clair approach places particular emphasis on observing family interactions as they happen. Sessions may involve shared activities or games, creating opportunities to notice how family members respond to one another and explore patterns of connection, communication and emotional regulation.
Claire also incorporates a somatic approach, helping family members become more aware of bodily responses and how these can influence feelings, behaviour and relationships.
Family support at The Healing Space is flexible and responsive to your family's needs. Depending on the circumstances, sessions may involve family members together, parent support, or individual sessions with a child or teenager where appropriate.
Support may also combine family sessions and parent support over time. The initial assessment helps us understand your family's circumstances and consider the approach, or combination of approaches, most likely to be helpful.
All child, teen and family referrals begin with an Initial Assessment.
This gives us an opportunity to explore what's been happening, hear everyone's perspective where appropriate, identify your family's strengths and understand the patterns that may be keeping everyone stuck.
The assessment helps us consider what type of support is likely to be most helpful and which therapeutic approach may be the best fit.
There isn't a fixed programme because every family is different.
Depending on your family's needs, support may involve:
We'll discuss the recommendations with you and agree on the most appropriate next steps. The approach can be reviewed and adapted as your family's needs change.
That's completely understandable. It can be difficult to know whether your child would benefit from individual therapy, whether parent support might help, or whether working together as a family would be more useful.
The Initial Assessment provides an opportunity to explore what's happening and consider the most appropriate way forward.
You don't need to have all the answers before getting in touch. We'll help you work out the best place to start.
Parent Support fees depend on the therapist and session length. Please get in touch to discuss the options available.
Where an assessment indicates that a combination of family therapy and parent support would be helpful, the recommended approach and associated fees will be discussed with you.
