Family court proceedings can be an incredibly difficult time for children, particularly where there is anxiety, reluctance, or distress around contact arrangements.
At The Healing Space, I provide therapeutic support for children involved in private law children proceedings, working alongside solicitors and the family court to help children process difficult family circumstances and, where appropriate, rebuild relationships that have become strained.
My approach is attachment-informed, trauma-aware, and entirely child-focused, using creative, age-appropriate tools to help children feel safe enough to express what they're experiencing.
Children caught up in family proceedings often carry anxiety, loyalty conflicts, and distress that they cannot easily put into words. A calm, neutral, therapeutic space, separate from the legal process itself, can help a child process what's happening and be genuinely heard.
I work as a treating therapist, not an expert witness or evaluator. My role is to support the child's emotional wellbeing, not to determine outcomes, assess blame, or provide opinion evidence to the court. This distinction is fundamental to how I work and is protected clearly in every instruction I accept.
✔️ Instructed via solicitors, with clear terms set out in a Letter of Instruction
✔️ Attachment-informed, trauma-aware, child-led approach
✔️ Neutral and independent of either parent's position
✔️ Factual, engagement-focused progress reporting where required
✔️ Experience working with anxiety, reluctance, and family conflict-related presentations
✔️ BACP Accredited
Once instructed, the process typically follows these steps:
A full fee schedule for court and solicitor-instructed work is available on request.
Therapeutic support for children where the court has identified a need for emotional wellbeing input, alongside or ahead of contact-focused work such as Cafcass's Enabling Family Time service.
Initial individual sessions with parents to establish practicalities and support the process, kept separate from the therapeutic work itself to protect neutrality.
Creative, age-appropriate individual therapy sessions, using tools such as sandtray, drawing, and storytelling to help children process and express difficult experiences safely.
Every case is different, and instructions are considered individually based on capacity and fit.
