Frequently Asked Questions

Contact me at gemma@thehealingspacetherapy.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You don't need to decide this on your own.

Whether you're looking for counselling for yourself, support for your child, parent support or family support & therapy, we'll begin by understanding what's been happening and what you're hoping will change.

For children and teenagers, I usually recommend starting with an Initial Family Assessment. This helps us understand the wider picture before deciding on the most appropriate way forward. Depending on your family's needs, this may lead to individual counselling, parent support, family support & therapy, or a combination of approaches.

For adults seeking individual therapy, we'll begin with an initial counselling session.

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what's brought you to therapy.

For adults, this usually involves exploring your current difficulties, relevant background information and what you would like to achieve through therapy.

For children and teenagers, the first appointment is an Initial Family Assessment. This gives us the opportunity to hear from parents and the young person, understand the wider context and agree on the most appropriate next steps.

There is no fixed number of sessions because every individual and every family is different.

Some people find that short-term therapy is enough to help them achieve their goals, while others benefit from longer-term support.

We will regularly review our work together to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.

If you're unsure which service is the right place to begin, you don't need to decide on your own. You're welcome to get in touch or book a free telephone consultation, and together we'll discuss your situation and decide on the most appropriate next step.

Yes. Online therapy is available for teenagers, adults and parent support sessions where appropriate.

Children under the age of 12 are seen in person only. Working face to face allows us to build a strong therapeutic relationship and make use of creative, play-based and experiential approaches that are often more effective for younger children.

If you're unsure whether online or in-person sessions would be most suitable, please get in touch and I'd be happy to discuss the options with you.

I work from The Healing Space in Lymm, providing in-person therapy for clients across Warrington, Trafford, South Manchester and the surrounding areas.

Online sessions are also available for suitable services.

I work with:

  • Children (aged 7-12)
  • Teenagers
  • Adults
  • Parents
  • Families

Support is always tailored to the individual or family's needs and stage of life.

I am a qualified psychotherapist and family support coach, with experience supporting children, teenagers, adults and families.

My core training is in humanistic, person-centred psychotherapy, and my work has been further developed through specialist training in attachment, developmental trauma and family systems. I integrate these approaches with creative and relational ways of working, tailoring therapy to the unique needs of each individual and family.

I am particularly passionate about helping people understand what sits beneath emotions, behaviour and relationship patterns, creating opportunities for meaningful and lasting change.

I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly undertake additional specialist training and clinical supervision to ensure my practice remains safe, ethical and evidence-informed.

For children and teenagers, we usually begin with an Initial Family Assessment involving parents and the young person.

After this, sessions are tailored to your family's needs. This may involve individual counselling for your child, parent support, family support & therapy, or a combination of approaches.

Where individual counselling is recommended, parents are invited to regular review sessions so we can work collaboratively while respecting the young person's confidentiality.

If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, please provide at least 48 hours' notice.

Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed without notice, will be charged at the full session fee unless there are exceptional circumstances.

While I provide ongoing therapeutic support, I am not a crisis service and cannot offer emergency or out-of-hours care. If you or your child are ever in crisis, it’s important to seek immediate help from appropriate services.
