Hi, I'm Gemma, a therapist with counselling spaces in Warrington, Cheshire, and Carrington, Manchester, UK. My journey into therapy began with a desire to heal from my own unresolved trauma. I noticed how it negatively impacted my connections with others, especially my children, and I was determined to find a way to break the cycle. Through my own healing process, I discovered the power of therapy and the profound impact it can have on individuals and families. This personal experience, combined with my diverse background as a general nurse, educator, and support worker for families and young people facing mental health and social challenges, fuels my passion for supporting others on their own journeys of self-discovery and healing.
My practice is grounded in Person-Centred Experiential Therapy (PCET), which places your experience, emotions, and inner world at the heart of the therapeutic process. Alongside this, I integrate a range of approaches to tailor support to your individual needs. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Transactional Analysis (TA), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Inner Child work. This integrative approach allows me to respond flexibly and compassionately to the unique challenges and goals each client brings.
For those who benefit from creative and embodied approaches, I offer nature-based therapy and creative arts therapies, which can support emotional expression and self-discovery in a gentle, non-verbal way.
I believe in creating a warm, non-judgemental space where you can safely explore your experiences, understand the patterns that shape you, and begin to move forward with greater clarity and self-compassion.
Appointments are available in person (both indoors and outdoors) and online, giving you flexibility to access support in a way that feels most comfortable for you.
I'm excited to connect with you and see how I can support your journey of self-discovery.
I am a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and parenting consultant with a strong foundation in person-centred therapy, gained through my Honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Edge Hill University. My passion lies in supporting individuals on their journey of personal growth and healing.
Over the years, I have expanded my expertise through a range of specialist training, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at both diploma and advanced levels. I am proficient in identifying and addressing cognitive distortions, a key aspect of CBT, and regularly use these skills to support clients in developing healthier thinking patterns and emotional resilience. Recognising the evolving needs of clients, I am also certified in online and telephone counselling, offering flexibility and accessibility.
Alongside my therapeutic qualifications, I bring a strong foundation in parent coaching, offering practical, compassionate support to parents navigating challenges with their child’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour, or neurodivergent needs. I am trained to help parents build emotionally attuned connections, set clear and respectful boundaries, and develop tools that promote regulation and resilience at home. My coaching work is informed by evidence-based approaches, including emotion coaching, conscious parenting, and strengths-based strategies tailored to each family.
My commitment to holistic wellbeing is reflected in my training in Ecotherapy: Walk & Talk Therapy, Inner Child Healing, and the integration of neuro-affirming principles into my practice. I have completed specialised training in working with adults and young people with ADHD and autism, as well as those with multiple neurodivergencies. I understand the unique challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals and families, and strive to create an inclusive, affirming, and empowering space.
I also hold in-depth knowledge of child and adolescent mental health, having completed a Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People and certification in Play and Art Therapy. I am well equipped to support young people in managing anxiety, stress, overwhelm, and emotional regulation.
As part of my commitment to inclusive and affirming practice, I have completed the Defining Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity Therapy (GSRDT) course. This has deepened my understanding of the experiences and needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals and those in diverse relationship structures, enabling me to offer respectful, informed, and non-judgemental support.
For those who may not be ready to commit to one-to-one therapy or coaching, I offer a growing library of blogs, free downloadable resources, and self-paced online courses. These are designed to provide accessible, flexible support for parents and individuals looking to build emotional understanding, learn practical strategies, and start their healing journey in their own time.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and an accredited registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), adhering to their ethical frameworks. I hold enhanced DBS clearance and am fully insured for your safety and peace of mind. I am committed to ongoing professional development, continually updating my skills to provide the most effective and compassionate support to the individuals and families I work with.
