Welcome to The Healing Space - a warm, trauma-informed counselling practice based in Lymm village, Cheshire.
I offer in-person therapy for children aged 7–12, in-person or online therapy for teens and adults, and parent support, supporting individuals and families across Warrington, Altrincham, Sale, Leigh, Irlam, Urmston, and South Manchester.

Hi, I’m Gemma, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Lymm, Cheshire. I offer therapy in a calm, welcoming space, both in person and online.
My journey into therapy started with trying to understand my own patterns. I could see how past experiences were shaping my relationships, especially as a parent, and I didn’t want to keep repeating the same cycles without really understanding why.
Through that process, I experienced how therapy isn’t just about coping or managing symptoms. It’s about making sense of what sits underneath them — the patterns, the nervous system responses, and the relational experiences that continue to shape how we feel and respond.
More recently, being diagnosed with ADHD has deepened my understanding even further. It’s given me a different lens on things like emotional intensity, overwhelm, and the gap between insight and change — not just personally, but in the therapy room too. I understand how frustrating it can be when you know something logically, but it still doesn’t feel different.
Alongside my work as a therapist, I bring a background in nursing, education, and working with families and young people. So I don’t just see things clinically — I understand how they show up in real life, in relationships, in parenting, and in the day-to-day moments that often feel the hardest to navigate.
My practice is grounded in person-centred experiential therapy, with a strong attachment- and trauma-informed focus.
I’m particularly interested in how early relationships and life experiences shape how we feel, how we relate to others, and how we see ourselves. Often, the things people are struggling with in the present make more sense when we understand where they’ve come from.
Over time, my work has developed into a more focused approach, with a growing specialism in ADHD; particularly how it shows up in everyday life and in the therapy room. This includes things like emotional intensity, overwhelm, masking, and that frustrating gap between knowing something logically and actually feeling or doing it differently.
My training in family systems also shapes how I work, helping me understand people within the wider context of their relationships, especially within families and early environments.
I work integratively, which means I don’t follow one rigid model. Instead, I draw from different approaches depending on what’s needed; including CBT, psychodynamic thinking, Transactional Analysis (TA), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and inner child work, but always in a way that feels relevant and grounded in your experience. This means I adapt to you, rather than expecting you to fit a particular way of working.
I also have a strong background in working with children and young people, and tailor the work depending on age, needs, and how someone naturally expresses themselves.
Where helpful, I use creative and practical tools, especially when talking on its own doesn’t quite reach what’s going on underneath.
Alongside therapy, I also offer parent support, helping parents make sense of behaviour, emotional responses, and family dynamics in a way that feels grounded and realistic.
This work focuses on attachment, regulation, and connection, without blame or quick-fix strategies.
I also create practical resources, blogs, and courses, so support doesn’t begin and end in the therapy room.

Above all, I aim to create a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences, understand the patterns shaping you, and begin to move forward in a way that feels more manageable and grounded.
Appointments are available in person and online, giving you flexibility to access support in a way that suits you.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I hold enhanced DBS clearance and am fully insured, working within professional ethical frameworks.
